John ‘Doing Hard Time’ Wilson

Timeline

1835? – Estimated year of birth.

1855 – 18^th September – Committed to Bow Street Station on a charge of stealing a watch from the person.

1855 – 15^th October – John Wilson, a single 20-year-old smith, was tried at the Adjournment of the Quarter Sessions at Westminster, and was sentenced to 4 years after having been found Guilty of stealing a watch from the person.

1856 – 15^thJanuary – Transferredto Millbank Prison. He is given the prisoner number 1797.

1856 – 15^th February – Transferredto Portland Prison. He is given the prisoner number 6432. His behaviour and health on the whole is good here, but the former deteriorates prior to an outbreak.

1858 – 15^th September – Transferred to Millbank Prison. He is given the prisoner number 8225. He is described in the Gaoler’s Report as having been a mutineer.

1858 – 23^rd December – Transferredto Chatham Prison. He is given the prisoner number 2149.

1859 – 6^th May – Removed from Chatham Prison and transferred to Woking Convict Invalid Prison. Prisoner Number 51.

He is described as dark complexioned with brown hair and blue eyes, his height is 5’7 and body type is slight. He is noted as being a single protestant and his next of kin is his father, Mr. Guy, living at 37 Walnut tree walk in Lambeth.

1859 – 14^th October – Released from Woking Convict Invalid Prison.
