Jessica Ruddick

Growing up as a military child I was literally surrounded by history. My dad took every chance he could (and still does) to teach me something new about anything to do with the Army, although the only parts I really paid attention to were tanks and guns. Instead, as I grew up I took more of an interest in mythology, historical crime and eventually the history of psychology.

Now, I am pursuing a career to do with criminology and psychology so volunteering with InstHist is a perfect fit for me. I have the opportunity to look at historical documents and learn things about history that are not only relevant to what I’m doing but are also of great interest to me.  I look forward to incorporating what I learn while volunteering into my studies and vice versa and also teach others that have the same interest in history as I do.

Aside from volunteering and studying, I also practice martial arts which ive been doing for many years. In that regard, I would say my greatest achievement is getting 2 black belts, one for taekwondo and one for kickboxing. I’m learning 2 languages (Korean and German) and some of my favourite things are anime, K-pop and gaming.
