1820 – 25th August – Baptised in Midhurst by his parents, Charles and Jane Warren.
1840 – Nominated to join the East India Company as a cadet for the Bengal Infantry[1].
1846 – 28th January – Engaged in the battle of Aliwal (The First Anglo-Sikh war) [2].
1846 –Received a medal for his part in the Sutlej Campaign[3].
1847 – 1st April – Promoted to Ensign.
1848 – Served against the Boer insurgency[4].
1848 – 20th October – Promoted to Lieutenant and received his own regiment, the 73rd Bengal Native Infantry[5].
1850 – May – Promotion from Lieutenant to Captain[6].
1851 – 31st March – Census – John Sandham Warren living at Sheep Lane, Midhurst, with his sister Margaret Warren.
1851 – Served in the Kaffir War[7].
1853 – March – Captain John Sandham Warren transferred from the Cape Mounted Rifleman to the 91st Foot.
1853 – Returned to England[8].
1854 – Appointed as Deputy Governor of Millbank Prison[9].
1856 – 3rd April – Married Helen Marianne Daniell in Paddington[10][11] .
1857 – Governor of the prison hulk, ‘Defence’.
1857 – 14th July – The Defence spontaneously caught fire, supposedly due to a recent delivery of coal. To put out the fire, they scuttled the ship and transferred the prisoners, and Warren, to a temporary residence at Lewes [12].
1857 – After the transfer of Prisoners to Lewes’ temporary invalid prison, he became Governor there[13].
1858 – Sussex Gazette – Living at 11 Priory Crescent, Lewes, Captain John Sandham Warren[14].
1859 – 1865 – Made Governor of Woking Convict Invalid Prison.
1868 – 21st March – John Sandham Warren’s eldest son, 9 year old Arthur John Sandham Warren, died in Worthing[15].
1871 – Justice of the peace in Sussex and living in Worthing, Chapel Road[16].
1881 – 1883 – Alderman for Bristol.
1886 – Moved to Showborough House, Tewkesbury[17]. This site now hosts a sculpture garden.
1889 – 27th November – Captain John Sandham Warren died of an ‘affectation of the heart’ in Tewkesbury [18].
1908 – 25th December – The Widow of Captain Warren, Helen Mary Ann Warren, died.
