SUNDAY, 8th March 2020 : Brookwood Muslim Cemetery Trail

Provider: The Brookwood Cemetery Society

Time: 2pm Start (90 minutes)

What: A walk around Woking’s Muslim Heritage Trail, taking in the sight and sounds of the UK’s first Muslim cemetery.

Where: The entrance to the Cemetery is off Cemetery Pales, a road joining the A322 near the Brookwood cross-roads. GU24 0B.

Fallen Gravestones Brookwood

SUNDAY, 5th April 2020: Introductory Walk Part 1.

Provider: The Brookwood Cemetery Society

Time: 2pm Start (90 minutes)

What: A walk exploring the lesser trod Anglican areas of Brookwood Cemetery – bring your camera!

Where: The entrance to the Cemetery is off Cemetery Pales, a road joining the A322 near the Brookwood cross-roads. GU24 0B.

WEDNESDAY, 29th April 2020: ‘Mad About Town’ A Talk on Mental Illness in Woking Convict Invalid Prison

Provider: The Institutional History Society and Knaphill Residents Association

Time: 7.30pm Start (30 minutes)

What: A taster presentation before our display at The Lightbox, exploring the lives, treatment and diagnosis of mental illness within Woking Prison.

Where: Knaphill Baptist Church. GU21 2PZ.

SUNDAY, 3rd May 2020: Medical Walk.

Provider: The Brookwood Cemetery Society

Time: 2pm Start (90 minutes)

What: To mark the bicentenary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, TBCS will be taking you on a guided tour of the graves of important medical personnel.

Where: The entrance to the Cemetery is off Cemetery Pales, a road joining the A322 near the Brookwood cross-roads. GU24 0B.

MONDAY 1st June 2020 to SATURDAY 1st August 2020 : ‘Mad About Town’ A Display on Mental Illness in Woking Convict Invalid Prison

Provider: The Institutional History Society and The Lightbox

Time: 10.30am – 5pm

What: The Institutional History Society was set-up in June 2019 to explore the lurid, the scandalous, and often unfair lives, treatments and crimes of people from times gone by. Our display this year will be uncovering the experiences of the mentally ill at Woking’s Convict Invalid Prison, using artefacts and biographies as a guide.

Where: The Lightbox. GU21 4AA.

Mental Illness in Prisons and Gaols

SUNDAY 7th June 2020: Military Walk.

Provider: The Brookwood Cemetery Society

Time: 2pm Start (90 minutes)

What: One for the military buffs, this walk will encompass prominent military personnel, including those were awarded a VC.
